The Cardinal Newman Centre of Cultural and Performance Arts marked its fifth anniversary with a joint exhibition celebrating Chinese calligraphy and the legacy of Catholic printing in Macau.
Organized in partnership with the Macau Diocesan Association for Performing Arts and Culture, the event features “Bamboo. Wood. Scripture. Heart”, a calligraphy exhibition by artist Choi Chuen Hing, and “From Lead to Legacy”, an archival display on the Salesian Orphanage Printing House.
During the exhibit opening in March, Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-sang of Macau thanked government agencies and partners for supporting the gallery, which he said follows Cardinal John Henry Newman’s vision of “heart speaking to heart.”
He called the fifth anniversary “a new beginning” and expressed hope for deeper cultural collaboration in Macau.
Bishop Lee praised the calligraphy exhibit for its “pursuit of beauty” and “love for the living word,” and the archival show for recalling “a history filled with love and hope.”
He noted that while the formats differ, both exhibits reflect “a deep concern for humanity and a profound respect for life.”
The exhibitions run until May 4 and include guided tours.
