Catholic Bishops of India releases book on synodal way

The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) has released a new book titled Telling the Story of Jesus in Our Context: The Synodal Way

The book was officially launched during the 36th Plenary Assembly of the CCBI at XIM University, Bhubaneswar.

Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the CCBI, unveiled the book by presenting the first copies to Archbishop George Antonysamy of Madras-Mylapore and Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi.

The book compiles insights from renowned theologians and scholars who participated in the 34th Plenary Assembly in 2023, held in Bangalore.

It features four chapters by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pro-Prefect for the Dicastery for Evangelization, focusing on Synodality and its deeper implications.

Bishop Allwyn D’Silva, retired prelate of Bombay, explores the connection between Synodality and environmental stewardship, emphasizing humanity’s relationship with Mother Earth.

Archbishop Felix Anthony Machado of Vasai provides reflections on the Church’s engagement with other religious traditions.

Msgr. Josef Sayer, former Director of Misereor, discusses Praedicate Evangelium, the Vatican document on Curia reform, and its impact on Church leadership.

“This book serves as a crucial resource for those seeking a deeper understanding of Synodality,” said Fr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General of the CCBI, in a press statement.

It offers “valuable insights and practical guidance for Church leaders, striving to cultivate a synodal spirit within religious congregations, parishes, dioceses, and other ecclesiastical institutions.”
