The Diocese of Dibrugarh in the Indian province of Guwahati on Oct. 1 organized an orientation program focusing on youth ministry and parish engagement.

The event drew over 200 participants, including parish priests, religious leaders, and youth representatives, reflecting the Church’s focus on youth involvement.

Father Chetan Machado, Executive Secretary of the Youth Commission of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India, stressed the importance of parishes in supporting young people, particularly in challenging environments.

He emphasized that parish-based youth ministry is essential for offering guidance and community to young members.

The orientation covered key topics related to the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), the Young Students Movement (YSM), and the Young Catholic Students (YCS).

The discussions were led by Father Machado, along with Regional NERYC Secretary Father John Barman MSFS and Sister Wansuk Lyngdoh MSMHC, who addressed the specific needs of today’s youth.

Religious orders such as the Salesians and Jesuits also participated, highlighting the role of different communities in youth engagement.
