In Hong Kong, ‘Friends of Caritas’ raises funds through TV show

A charity TV show, organized by the Friends of Caritas, has raised nearly HK$10 million as of July 11. The Caritas Charity TV Show aired on the TVB Jade channel on July 6, and the total amount is expected to increase through a matching donation.

Themed “Give Them Hope,” the show began with a lighting ceremony officiated by Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J.; Dr. Tony Ko Pat-sing, Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority; Joseph Lee Chung-tak, Chairperson of Wofoo Foundation and the preparation committee for the show; Jimmy Jim Wai-ki, Chairperson of the Caritas Fund Raising Committee and Senior Business Director of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia); Theresa Ng Choi-yuk, Chairperson of Friends of Caritas; and Andrew Chan Tak-kuen, the advisor for the event.

According to the Sunday Examiner, the show featured testimonials from individuals dealing with depression, addiction, chronic illnesses, and family issues.

These stories were presented by the five emcees, including actress and singer Liza Wang, highlighting the support Caritas provides through its service units like integrated family service centers, rehabilitation services, and community centers.

One moment of the evening featured a painter whose artwork was exhibited in Caritas Artland. She distributed souvenirs and showcased her pieces to the guests.

The event included performances from some of Hong Kong’s singers and the Millennium Youth Orchestra, under the direction of musician Chiu Tsang-hei. Their performances brought to life songs about love and resilience.

The show was supported by 78 donation hotlines sponsored by Make The Right Call. Donation channels and matching donations will remain open until the end of September, inviting the public to continue their support for the needy.
